Reasons for this Project
This page outlines the positive aspects of LED lighting.
Fluorescent lamps contain mercury which is a toxic substance. LED lamps contain no mercury which makes them better on the environment and easier to recycle. If a fluorescent lamp is shattered due to improper disposal or a mere accident, mercury is released into the environment. This is detremental to the health of those around the toxic gas.
Fluorescent lamps have a short lifespan in comparison to LED technology. A typical fluorescent lamp can emit light from anywhere between 10000 and 20000 hours while an LED will continue emitting light in excess of 50000 hours. This makes building maintenance easier. LED lamps are also not affected by switching them on and off while the life of a fluorescent tube can be shortened drastically by being switched on and off repeatedly.
The final and most obvious advantage is a lower energy consumption.
